Abdominal Gas treatment

The average person produces one to four pints of gas and passes gas fourteen times a day. Odorless vapors such as carbon dioxide, oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen, and occasionally methane make up the majority of gas. The foul-smelling gas produced by sulfur-containing gasses released by bacteria in the large intestine is called flatulence. The digestive system produces gas from two sources: air swallowing, or aerophagia. Usually, smoking, chewing gum, eating or drinking quickly, and wearing loose dentures are the causes of this. Most swallowed air exits the stomach by belching. A tiny portion of the residual gas enters the large intestine and is expelled through the rectum, while the remainder is absorbed partially into the small intestine. Some undigested foods are broken down by benign bacteria that are normally found in the large intestine (colon).
